State business filings and records can be accessed through the NM Secretary of State’s online business portal

New Mexico Business Portal Basics

State business filings and records can be accessed through the NM Secretary of State’s online business portal. You can use the portal to:

yellow dot   File reports;

yellow dot   Update your registered agent and business info;

yellow dot   Request a copy of your articles of incorporation/ organization;

yellow dot   Check the legal status of your business;

yellow dot   Request a certificate of good standing to prove your business is operating legally in the state;

yellow dot   Register an out-of-state business in NM;

yellow dot   And much more, including notary stuff.

This is a new system as of 2025, so even if you were familiar with the old portal, you will have to create a new account for this new system. Nothing from the old system transferred to the new system.

There are 4 main menus in the portal where most of the above tasks can be completed. But first, how do you access the business portal and the business search?

How to access the NM online business portal and business search

The URL is www.enterprise.sos.nm.gov but that’s not easy to remember, so you can find the portal anytime by googling “NM business portal” or similar.

From the home page, go to the menu on the left and click “Search.” This will take you to the business search where you can find the public records for any business in the state.

You will need an account to view and file the forms. It’s free and easy to create an account. The account then belongs to you as an individual, not the business, so you can use the same account to do tasks for different businesses.

1. “File Amendment” menu: update records, change entity type, or dissolve a business

The menu titled “File Amendment” lets you do the following:

yellow dot   Audit request – find out what you need to do to get a business in good standing;

yellow dot   LLC amendment – make a change to your articles of organization (for LLCs only);

yellow dot   Registered Agent resignation or change;

yellow dot   LLC dissolution – tell the state that you’re shutting down your LLC;

yellow dot   Merger – merge two or more LLCs or corporations into one new entity;

yellow dot   Conversion – convert an LLC, corporation, or partnership into a different type of entity.

Find this menu by searching the business in the business search and clicking on it so that a panel comes up on the right side of the screen with the business information. At the top of that panel, you’ll see a button that says “File Amendment.”

2. “Request Certificate” menu: get copies of your business forms and get proof of good standing

The “Request Certificate” menu lets you do the following:

yellow dot   Get plain or certified copies of business forms;

yellow dot   Request certificates to show the status of a business, that a business is in good standing, or that a business is NOT authorized to conduct business in the state.

Find this menu by clicking “Request Certificate” at the top of the side panel in the business search.

3. “Forms” menu: create an LLC or corporation and access other types of forms.

The “Forms” menu is where you can:

yellow dot   Create an LLC, corporation, or other business type (this is the same thing as registering a business and filing the articles of incorporation/ organization);

yellow dot   Register an out-of-state business in NM.

Find the business filings in the “Forms” menu by first clicking on “Forms” on the left hand side of the screen under “Search.” Then click the dropdown menu at the top of the page that says “Apostille” and then click “Business.”

4. File Biennial Report (Corporations and LPs only)

Every corporation and limited partnership in NM has to file a biennial report, meaning every other year. No one will tell you when an upcoming report is due. It is the business owner’s responsibility to keep track of all legal deadlines.

To find when the report is due, look for a date on that side panel in the business search with the business info that says “AR Due Date” (see screenshot below). “AR” means “annual report,” which is incorrect for for-profit corporations or limited partnerships. While non-profits in NM file reports annually, for-profit corps and limited partnerships file biennially.

The button to file the biennial report only appears when the report is coming due. When the deadline is coming up, the button will appear at the top of the side panel on the business search.

Those are the basics of the business portal. Once you’re logged into your account, you can view the full forms and see what information you’re going to need before submitting them.
