Communications
Q: What is your availability?
A: Our attorney is generally available during business hours. Clients are welcome to send emails, calls, and texts outside business hours and our attorney will respond the following business day.
Q: How long do you take to respond to emails, calls, or texts?
A: Our attorney will respond within one business day or as soon as possible if the matter is urgent.
Payment
Q: How do I pay you?
A: Our attorney will send an invoice to your email on a monthly basis regardless of how much is owed, unless the work is completed in less than 30 days. The invoice will have a link for online payment with debit card, credit card, or e-check. Invoices are due upon receipt.
Q: Will you sign up for my payment platform?
A: Unfortunately, it is not practicable for us to sign up for our clients’ preferred payment platforms. If you prefer to pay through your own platform, we are happy to provide a voided check so you can set up the payment on your end.
Q: Do you take paper checks?
A: Yes. Paper checks must be made out to “Honest Contracts, LLC” and mailed to PO Box 6825, Albuquerque, NM 87197.
Q: I’m a nonprofit. Do I have to pay gross receipts tax for legal services?
A: Unfortunately, yes, nonprofits have to pay GRT when buying goods or services from a seller subject to GRT, including Honest Contracts. Click here to learn more.
Timeline
Q: What is the turnaround time for the work?
A: Our general turnaround time is 2-3 weeks but may be shorter or longer based on the following factors:
The type of work (e.g. contract reviews have a faster turnaround time than custom contract creation);
How long it takes for us to get the documents/ information we need from you;
How long it takes for a third party to take action (e.g. state approval of a business registration);
The complexity of the work (e.g. a simple NDA can be prepared faster than a custom partnership agreement).
Q: How long does it take the NM Secretary of State (SOS) to approve my business?
A: By law, the SOS has 15 business days to approve a business filing. In practice, it’s usually around 3 days but it varies. We’ve seen it take as little as a few hours and as much as the full 15 days.
Q: How long does it take the IRS to approve a 501(c)(3) application?
A: For the short form (which is only available to certain organizations), it can take 1-4 months. For the long form, it can take up to one year and usually not less than 6 months.
