Co-ops are starting to have a moment in the U.S. and it’s, hopefully, only the beginning. While there are still many barriers to cooperatively structuring an organization, more and more amazing resources are becoming available to fill the growing need for information and support.

More and more people are looking to the cooperative business model as we suffer through the consequences of the anticompetitive, profit-maximizing shareholder-first approach taken by most
companies since the 1980s.

When people talk about co-ops, short for cooperatives, they’re usually talking about
democratically governed businesses. But in New Mexico, a cooperative is a specific type of legal
structure and it may or may not be the best fit for businesses looking to share the wealth.
